Oscar

The Oscar (Samoyed) Outcross

“Oscar”
Funny Fabric Xpect the Unxpected

For the third outcross, the ISSA has chosen a Samoyed. “Funny Fabric Xpect the Unxpected”, also known as “Oscar”, has HD A hips with a Norberg value of 40, and no other health concerns. His ECVO eye test is clear, with no signs of distichiasis.

Oscar’s breeder is from Finland and got her first Samoyed in 1974. She began breeding them shortly thereafter. Oscar was imported from Finland to the Netherlands by his current owners. Several of their dogs have earned national and international championship titles. Occasionally, we breed litters—always with pedigree and care. Health, character, and beauty are key criteria in selecting (grand)parents. Puppies are raised in our home as part of the family. Our goal is to raise balanced, energetic, and above all, social puppies that enjoy a healthy, long life.

About Oscar

Oscar is an intelligent, relaxed, and well-balanced dog with a friendly temperament. He is well-mannered around people, other dogs, and animals, and responds well to commands. He is confident and fearless.

Oscar was bred to the Shiloh Shepherd Susi mid-2024. Susi and Oscar share very similar temperaments. They are both outgoing, friendly with people and other animals, and strongly bonded to their owners. They are confident and stable, making them a well-matched pair.

Advantages

With this pairing, the intent was improve lower jaw length and thickness, broaden the skull, increase muzzle length and width, decrease ear size without compromising shape, widen the chest, and maintain parallel hocks. We hope to see the confidence and fearlessness of the Samoyed while increasing the genetic diversity.

Potential Challenges

Due to the shorter stature of Samoyeds in comparison to Shilohs, we will be working to counteract the loss of height, as well as the tendency for the dogs to carry their tail over their back.

The F1 Litter

The F1 pups of this outcross breeding were born September 2024: 4 females and 7 males. The diversity test showed a lot of new genes. Five of the pups are judged at 8 months. They all showed great temperaments and structure wise they indeed improved on the traits we hoped for.
