Our Memorial Day show this year really showcased why ISSA is a fantastic group. We all got together for our first show on Saturday morning, with one member driving overnight from Wisconsin to get there in time with her dog! Other members had flown in from as far away as Victoria, British Columbia, to participate. Everyone was enthusiastic and ready to have a good time! Below, Anne, Vanessa and Bridgit watch the action in the ring.
Our Saturday Judge had been involved in the dog fancy for over fifty years! It was an honor to meet Judge Tom Carneal and to discuss our genetic diversity testing, our breed standard, and our dogs. Thank you so very much for judging for us!

At the end of the morning storms began to roll in! We hustled our gear up to the Event Center and set up for the next day's show, and then adjourned for lunch and social time at the hotel. Our fun auction to benefit the club was a success thanks to the generosity of our members--we are truly grateful. You are all awesome, and our ISSA Vice President, Maya Jerome, had a lot of fun as auctioneer! Shiloh kitchen towels, a gorgeous leather leash, treat baskets, doggie blankets, and books all found new homes. Below, the kitchen towels!
After the auction, ISSA Club Secretary Anne Becker gave a short talk about the history of the dogs behind our Shiloh breed. Pedigrees of the foundation dogs of the Shiloh Shepherd were spread out on all the tables, followed by pedigrees for all of the dogs in our gene pool! It was an impressive sight. Anne is already planning more seminars on Shiloh genetics for the National!
Sunday was Show-Day! The Shilohs came out to strut their stuff for our two judges, Sandy and Stan Aspey. It was a pleasure to meet both of you, and we offer up our profound thanks for your input on our breed! Purina surprised us by unveiling our very own International Shiloh Shepherd Alliance banner, which promptly became our favorite photo accessory!
Here's Kobuk waiting to go into the ring:
The ribbons...whose hands will they end up in?
Karen and Atticus pulled in a haul this weekend! Great job!
Anne and her Blazie came out to represent the smooth-coats!
Beautiful Nova did a great job in the ring! Congratulations!
Once the sign came out, posing ensued...
Anita and Brian came all the way from Victoria, B.C.!
The shot in the banner above and this one turned out really well. A great weekend for our Club!
After the shows, several people showed up from our Facebook groups just to meet the dogs, including some waiting for their own Shiloh puppy out of a litter born that very weekend! Our own Anita Rados, Licensed Breeder and Board member, spent an hour showing us some game-changing training techniques designed to help your dog relax and walk nicely on a loose lead. It was fantastic stuff! We were all inspired to try it with our own dogs. Big thanks to out to Anita, and to our Member Coordinator, Bridgit Amstrup, who volunteered to be Anita's "demo model" for the training with her Shilohs Nova and Kobuk!
We wrapped up the day with a relaxing group dinner, absolutely the best way to finish off a weekend with our Shiloh friends. All of us were already making plans to come back for the National Event in October! Maybe you might come out to meet us then, too?
We hope you've enjoyed our story and the photos. Thanks so much for reading!
